Warning: We recommend not adjusting these settings unless you are a security expert or are under our Support supervision.
By default, this setting is off. VIPRE's Firewall Standard Mode will handle these settings automatically. You should only turn this setting on if you wish to manage Process Protection, manually, on your own.
Process Protection is used to allow specific programs/applications to inject code into another program/application.
Example: Code Injections
For example, with Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) enabled when an application attempts to inject code, clicking "Allow" when prompted will create a Code Injection rule for the application. If desired, you can further customize this generated Code Injection rule from the Host Intrusion Protection System Exceptions screen.
To manually add and configure a code injection exception:
1. Click Manage HIPS (Manage > Firewall > Process Protection).
2. Click Add Exception. The Add Code Injection Exception dialog displays.
3. Browse to locate the application.
4. Click Open to accept the exception. The application is added to the list in the Host Intrusion Protection System Exceptions dialog.
5. Close to return to Firewall.
6. Switch on Process Protection.
7. Select an Action from the drop-down: Allow, Allow with Notify, Block, or Block with Notify.
Note: If you set Action to Allow with Notify, you will continue to get notifications for items that you have allowed via the rules. Block with Notify will prompt you (choose to create a rule there) and you won’t see the notification in the future as it has been allowed.
To delete a code injection exception:
1. Click Manage HIPS (Manage > Firewall > Process Protection).
2. Click on the trash can next to the exception.
