Some programs on the internet will change your homepage to an unofficial search engine which will direct you to ads, popups, and even malware or viruses. When this happens, it is not always a malicious attack. Some of these programs do this as a form of advertisement. VIPRE's Web Filter blocks these sites and/or redirects because they can be linked to malware or viruses.
When VIPRE blocks a website, this screen will appear:

The first step in fixing this issue is to remove the offending program.
- First, open your list of installed programs.
- Windows XP - Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
- Windows Vista/7 - Click Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features.
- Windows 8 - From the Start Menu (Tiles Screen), type "Control" and a search will come up as you are typing. Click the Control Panel option, then Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features.
- Windows 10 - From the search bar on the bottom left of the screen, type "Control" and a search will come up as you are typing. Click the Control Panel option, then Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features.
- Next, you need to find the programs to remove. They can come under many different names. You can tell what they are from both the name of the program, as well as the publisher. Keep in mind that some of these will display advertisements and open webpages as they are being removed. You can safely ignore and close any of these.
- Some common names are listed below; this is not a complete list but you can look for similar names:
- Search Protect
- WSE_*(anything with WSE_ in front of it)
- Trovi
- Gorilla Price
- MyOSProtect
- Conduit
- Mindspark Network
- SafeSearch
- iLivid
- Searchqu

- After removing those programs, it might be necessary to reset some of your browser settings. This process can be different depending on the Browser.
Internet Explorer- To reset Internet Explorer, click on Tools >Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Reset Button.

Google Chrome- To reset Chrome, click on the Menu button in the top right, then Settings. Scroll to the bottom and click Show Advanced Settings. Scroll to the bottom again and click Reset Settings.

Mozilla Firefox- To reset Firefox, click the Menu button in the top right, then the Help Icon on the bottom. An option for Troubleshooting Information will appear. Click it, then the Reset Firefox button on the top right.
